SyBBURE student Gina Yu received a travel award for the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS). This generous award covers travel, hotel, and fee expenses for the annual ABRCMS convention. Congratulations, Gina!

SyBBURE Searle students do cool stuff by traveling the world to attend conferences and disseminate their research findings. Just this summer:
Alisa Shmidt presented at the Materials Research Society Spring Meeting & Exhibit in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Jared Robinson presented at the American Society for Mass Spectrometry Annual Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Joyce Sanks and Andrei Olaru traveled to Frankfurt, Germany for immersive research experiences at the Senckenberg Museum of Natural History.
Isabella Wynocker and Patrick Darmawi-Iskandar presented research at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Nuclear and Space Radiation Effects Conference in Provo, Utah.
Cassandra Atzrodt visited Vail, Colorado to present her research at the Kern Lipid Conference.
Min Joo Kim presented research at the US Korea Conference: Science and Technology in the Wake of the Pandemic, which was held in Arlington, Virginia.

Scientific Output Update: Lauren Grohowski
SyBBURE Student Lauren Grohowski’s third-author article, “Tibial bone forces can be monitored using shoe-worn wearable sensors during running,” was published in the Journal of Sports Sciences on August 6, 2022. Check it out here.
Grace DePietro Awarded Erasmus Mundus Scholarship
Grace, a recent SyBBURE alumnus (Electrical Engineering, Class of 2021), has received an Erasmus Mundus scholarship. The scholarship, funded by the European Union, will cover tuition, insurance, travel, and a monthly allowance for Grace while she attends a joint masters program in Ireland, Spain, and Norway for renewable energy in the marine environment.

SyBBURE Student Minna Apostolova wins Aida Nureddin Outstanding Junior Research Award
SyBBURE student Minna Apostolova has received the Biochemistry Department Aida Nureddin Outstanding Junior Research Award. This is an award for the top junior conducting research in the Vanderbilt University Biochemistry and Chemical Biology Program. Congratulations, Minna!

SyBBURE Students Cassandra Atzrodt and Tiara Oldfield recognized for most cited article in FEBS Journal
SyBBURE students Cassandra Atzrodt and Tiara Oldfield and their coauthors have earned the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) Journal Most Cited Article 2020-2021. Their review paper was one of the top cited articles in the FEBS Journal in the 2020-2021 year. Cassandra Atzrodt and Tiara Oldfield’s review article entitled A Guide to COVID-19: a global pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 was published in the FEBS Journal on May 23, 2020. SyBBURE student Ethan Nguyen wins Barry Goldwater Scholarship
SyBBURE student Ethan Nguyen has won the Barry Goldwater Scholarship. The scholarship is for sophomores and juniors at 2 or 4 year universities who plan on pursuing a career in research in the natural sciences, mathematics, or engineering. He was selected from a pool of 1242 nominees from an estimated pool of over 5,000. Read more here. Congratulations, Ethan!
